Just like making the act of paying attention to dreams a habit, making it a habit to check to see if you are awake or dreaming is another way to get your brain to clue you in to the fact that you are dreaming. If you make reality checks a habit, the law of numbers says that eventually your brain will do this while you are sleeping and viola! You are aware that you are dreaming and have entered a lucid dream!
Once you have learned how to enter a lucid dream, you will have an easier time of creating dreams of flying. How to control your flight, however, is simply a matter of mind over the subconscious. You can decide whether or not you want to fly in your dream, how you want to fly and where you want to fly to.
